If God were a proponent of slavery, He would not have sent 10 plagues against the Egyptians for enslaving the Children of Israel. Furthermore, the God of Abraham (Avraham), Isaac (Yitzchak) and Jacob (Yaakov) makes his point against slavery in the New Testament as well.
Interestingly, God specified to Abraham that the slave woman (Hagar and her son be thrown out when Ishmael was 13 for poking fun at the child of promise Yitzchak/Isaac). Nearly four thousand years later, another man named Abraham (Abraham Lincoln) was instrumental in the abolishment of slavery with the 13th Amendment.
I am sharing this story to point out the evils of Slavery as illustrated in the Judeo-Christian foundations and the Judeo-Christian heritage and faith of our great nation.
Slavery was and is an intrinsic evil.
Many have utilized Scripture from the OT to justify this evil and perpetrated it. Interestingly I have done a study on this and found that God really was against slavery in See More of the writings of the OT in Deuteronomy & Leviticus.
Any religion that perpetuates this evil goes against everything human, everything Judaic & everything Christian.
Everyone reading this blog post should be proud to be an Americans and to be living in the land of the free.
I hate ignorance and despise it;
Abuse is also a form of slavery by the perpetrators.
Let us begin with a story I read not too long ago regarding the Republican Party and the issue of Slavery. BTW, His Word for it is sharper than any two edged sword.
What happened on March 11, 1874? In American history?
Wow...Read this.
His outspoken stand against slavery resulted in enraged Congressman Preston S. Brooks from Carolina violently beating him on the head with a cane while he was sitting at his desk on the floor of the United States Senate, the injuries from which he never fully recovered. Who was he? Senator Charles Sumner, who died this day, March 11, 1874. A Senator from Massachusetts for 23 years and a founder of the Republican Party, Charles Sumner declared: "That great story of redemption, when God rose up the slave-born Moses to deliver His chosen people from bondage, and...that sublime story where our Saviour died a cruel death that all men, without distinction of race, might be saved makes slavery impossible."
Sumner, Charles. E.C. Lester, Life and Public Services of Charles Sumner, pp. 321, 171. Stephen Abbott Northrop, D.D., A Cloud of Witnesses (Portland, OR: American Heritage Ministries, 1987; Mantle Ministries, 228 Still Ridge, Bulverde, Texas), p. 436.
DEMOCRAT PARTY FACTS IN REGARDS TO SLAVERY.
It was the Democrat party--not the GOP--who stood in the way of American freedom. Every vote against the Thirteenth Amendment to free the slaves was cast by a Democrat. Every vote against Lincoln 's Emancipation Proclamation was cast by a Democrat. In 1922, when Republicans tried to outlaw lynching, Senate Democrats filibustered the bill until it died and continued filibustering against it until it was approved in 1957. When the great Civil Rights Act of 1964 finally passed, Republicans in the Senate backed it 23-6, but Democrats in the majority approved by only 44-23. Without the Republican Party, it wouldn't have become the law of the land.
In the following verses from the Hebrew Scripture (Both the Tanakh (OT) and the B’rit Hadashah (NT) it is clearly implied that SLAVERY IS EVIL.
Deu 23:15 If a slave has taken refuge with you, do not hand him over to his master
Deu 23:16 Let him live among you wherever he likes and in whatever town he chooses. Do not oppress him
Deu 24:7 If a man is caught kidnapping one of his brother Israelites and treats him as a slave or sells him, the kidnapper must die. You must purge the evil from among you.
Deu 32:36 The Lord will judge his people and have compassion on his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free.
Lev 19:20 " 'If a man sleeps with a woman who is a slave girl promised to another man but who has not been ransomed or given her freedom, there must be due punishment. Yet they are not to be put to death, because she had not been freed.
Lev 25:39 “‘if one of your countrymen becomes poor among you and sells himself to you, do not make him work as a slave.
1Ti 1:9 We also know that law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious; for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers,
1Ti 1:10 for adulterers and perverts, for slave traders and liars and perjurers–and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine
1Ti 1:11 that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me. The following is a beautiful reference about Onesimus by the apostle Paul in the book of Philemon. What Paul states to the respective owner of Onesimus says it all. Phm 1:10 I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, who became my son while I was in chains. Phm 1:16 no longer as a slave, but better than a slave, as a dear brother. He is very dear to me but even dearer to you, both as a man and as a brother in the Lord.
